Huawei Isn’t Selling its Smartphone Business
Huawei has issued an official statement to Chinese media, saying it has no plans of selling its smartphone business and that it’ll continue to make high-end phones.
The move was made in response to a recent report by Reuters indicating that the company is already negotiating the sale of its flagship P and Mate series.
While certainly reassuring, the fact is that Huawei currently has no source for chipsets that will be used for its top-tier devices as major chip suppliers – Qualcomm and MediaTek are both not allowed to sell chips to the company, and HiSilicon can’t utilize TSMC’s facilities.
In addition, a report also states that the licenses that were granted to some companies in order to do business with the brand were eventually revoked.
Nevertheless, it’ll be interesting to see what actions Huawei will take.
