Huawei Rumored to Launch Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered Devices at HarmonyOS Event

Ahead of the HarmonyOS event of Huawei, a well-known Weibo tipster revealed that the company will launch a couple of devices with Qualcomm chipsets at the helm.

One variant of the MatePad Pro tablets is one of the devices that will feature a Snapdragon SoC. The 12.6-inch version is said to be powered by a Kirin 9000 chipset, while the smaller 10.8-inch variant will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 at the helm.

The Huawei MatePad 2 tablet with a 12.2-inch display is said to also feature a different Qualcomm chipset. Lastly, the Huawei P50 series, according to the tipster, will feature a 4G version with a Snapdragon 888, while the 5G variant will have a Kirin 9000 powering it.

The decision is pretty wise especially amidst the company’s chip shortage. By using a Snapdragon chipset, it allows the company to launch new products with full-fledged functionalities.

The HarmonyOS platform is also said to be adopting the Qualcomm chipset platform as well. Which is good news for the open-source community and third-party phone makers that plan to use the OS.

Thankfully the HarmonyOS event is scheduled to take place at 8 PM later today (Philippine Time), meaning we won’t have to wait too long before we confirm the rumors.
