Samsung has just launched the 50MP ISOCELL JN1 camera sensor. The South Korean company’s latest smartphone camera sensor is the smallest it has produced with a 1/2.76-inch optical format.
The ISOCELL JN1 sensor is said to be made for “every smartphone, from mid-range to flagship”. It features ISOCELL 2.0 with advanced pixel isolation and reduced cross-talk. This is supposed to help improve light sensitivity and color fidelity.
The new sensor features Tetrapixel technology that merges four pixels into a big 1.28μm pixel. This is said to produce 12.5MP images with less noise. It also allows real-time HDR with two exposures being captured at the same time.
It also has Double Super PD, which in a nutshell is improved phase-detection focusing. As far as video goes, it is capable of capturing video up to 4K at 60fps and 1080p at 240fps but will ultimately depend on the capabilities of the chipset of the smartphone.
The Samsung ISOCELL JN1 sensor is announced to be in mass production, which means we can expect to see the new sensor in smartphones soon.
