These days, 5G is no longer exclusive to expensive flagship devices. The technology has evolved such that smartphone makers are already able to equip even mid-range devices with such high-speed connectivity. So, this brings us to a big question – which one is the better buy on paper?
As always, we like to make it easier for you to decide. So, we pitted three of these devices for simple specs comparison. No, we will not be going through the nitty gritty of benchmarks and all that, but this should at least give you an idea of which phone is right for your needs.
The three devices in the spotlight – The realme 8 5G, Redmi Note 10 5G, and the POCO M3 Pro 5G. All three are priced the same or remarkably close to each other, which should even out the playing field a bit.

Variants
Right off the bat, all three seem to offer impressive numbers on paper. Both the Redmi Note 10 5G and POCO M3 Pro 5G are available in two variants, which makes them great options for those who do not want to spend an extra amount of money for more RAM, but still wants to experience all the other goodies, including the benefits of 5G connectivity.
We’ve actually received word that realme will be launching a 4GB+128GB variant of the realme 8 5G, which evens out the fight in this category.
Display
All three basically offer the same type of display, the same size, and a 90Hz refresh rate. There is just one difference – the realme 8 5G boasts 600 nits of brightness, while the other two only offer 400 nits. That is an advantage that will become more evident when using the phone say, outdoors and in direct sunlight.
Processor
The MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G is at the core of all three devices. Not knowing whether any of them are benefiting from higher clock speeds, we can fairly say that you can expect the same level of performance from all three phones.
RAM and Storage
Both the realme 8 5G and Redmi Note 10 5G have up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, while the POCO M3 Pro 5G offers 2GB less. All three offer up to 128GB of storage. The difference is that while the realme 8 5G uses UFS 2.1 storage, the other two are equipped with UFS 2.2 storage, which offers improved writing speeds that result to generally faster startup for apps and encoding, as well as an improved browsing experience, among the other benefits.
Another thing to note is that while it uses slower storage, realme 8 5G features Dynamic RAM Expansion which converts 5GB of its storage into RAM for a total of 13GB, giving you more room for multi-tasking. In the end, it is a choice between quantity or speed.

All three smartphones basically have the same rear camera configuration. Oddly, none of them sport an ultra-wide unit, which I personally think is much more useful than a mere 2MP macro camera. Upfront, the realme 8 5G uses a 16MP sensor compared to the 8MP on the other two, which in theory, should give it an advantage in terms of the amount of detail that can be captured.
Then again, there is a lot to factor in on image quality like software and the image processor, which means it does not automatically make it the better camera. It is still best to try them out first, or even look at the camera modes/features, to see which one fits your needs.
Battery
All three pack a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast-charging via a USB-C port. Again, battery life can also factor in a lot of things, such as how optimized the software is, and the user’s usage pattern. Charging time can also be affected by how the phone behaves during charging – does it go all out all the time? Does it slow down at some point to avoid issues? This makes them again, equal on paper, but probably not in actual use.
The Victor (on Paper)
So, judging just by the spec sheet, all three devices should offer a great user experience in terms of most aspects – performance, photography, battery life, etc.
If you want the phone with the most RAM, and the better front camera, go for the realme 8 5G. If, however, you are all about performance, the Redmi Note 10 5G will probably be the best choice, and if you want the most affordable with only minimal compromise, get the POCO M3 Pro 5G.
