Microsoft has announced that it will stick to its decision for Windows 11 to not support AMD Zen 1 chips and most Intel 7th generation processors. This comes after the company said it would reevaluate the situation for both chipsets.
Given the announcement, this means you’ll need an Intel 8th-gen processor and up or AMD Zen 2 or higher for Intel and AMD, respectively to upgrade to Windows 11.
Although AMD Zen 1 processors won’t be supported at all, it isn’t quite the case for the Intel 7th gen series. Windows 11 will be supporting Core X-series, Xeon W-series, and Intel Core i7-7820HQ. The last of which is the same processor found in the Surface Studio 2.
Despite this though, the Windows 11 ISO won’t check your system specs, meaning you’ll be able to manually install it. However, what you can’t do though is to update to Windows 11 via Windows Update.
Do note though that if your system doesn’t meet the requirements, you’re more likely to come across 52% more kernel mode crashes. This is compared to the 99.8% crash-free experience on systems that meet the requirements.
Additionally, Microsoft will release a new PC Health Check app today for 64-bit, 32-bit, ARM, and S mode PCs today. The new version will inform you better as to why your PC isn’t supported by the new Windows version with links included.
