OPPO has just ended day one of the OPPO INNO DAY 2021 event and the company showcased two new interesting techs for us to talk about.

They revealed the OPPO Air Glass and the MariSilicon Neural Processing Unit. The former is an AR Device (Augmented/Assisted Reality), while the latter is the company’s first NPU that enhances images and videos in real-time.

OPPO Air Glass

During the OPPO INNO DAY 2021, the company described the Air Glass as an Assisted Reality device, rather than Augmented Reality, meaning it projects information in a 2D plane into your field of view instead of showing 3D rendered objects on top of the real world.

The Air Glass is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4100 chipset and it only weighs 30grams. It displays information using Micro LED that has 3million nits peak brightness, but OPPO says actual brightness can only be up to 1,400 nits in average conditions.

In addition, the device can be controlled using voice, touch, hand gestures, head movement, and also through the Smart Glass App on a smartphone running Color OS 11 or Above.

But don’t hold your breath as the company announced it will only have a “limited release” this Q1 2022 and will only be available in China.

MariSilicone X

The company also revealed its first NPU chip that enhances machine learning-based imaging performance that will be integrated into OPPO’s Find X series in Q1 next year.

The new NPU is built on a 6nm process and has an ISP. It supports 20-bit, 120db dynamic range in images, real-time RAW processing in 4K videos. The NPU also enables AI to apple noise reduction algorithms, better color duplication, HDR, and overall improved detail.

The NPU is said to be capable of handling 18 trillion operations per second (TOPS) thanks to its dedicated memory.
