OPPO introduced its new 150W SuperVOOC charger at the Mobile World Congress 2022. This comes just a couple of days after the launch of the OPPO Find X5 series.
The 150W SuperVOOC system, based on a lab test with a prototype phone, topped up the 4500mAh battery from 1% to 50% in 5 minutes. Meanwhile, it was fully charged in 15 minutes despite being inactive and in airplane mode.
The charger uses GaN technology that allows it to be more compact and light. It measures in at just 58x57x30mm and weighs in at 172g. This is just a little larger than the 65W SuperVOOC charger.
The 150W SuperVOOC charger outputs 7.5A at 20V. Meanwhile, the prototype device had two battery cells with its own charge pump. The pump converts the incoming electricity to 5V/15A and feeds into the battery.
The company also addressed concerns about battery life in two ways – Battery Health Engine and Battery Healing Technology.
Battery Health Engine uses a custom chip to manage the battery. Based on a lab test, a battery retained 80% of its capacity after 1,600 complete charge cycles. In comparison, this is double the average 800 cycles.
The Smart Battle Health algorithm constantly monitors the negative electrode to minimize the occurrence of dead lithium.
Meanwhile, the Battery Healing Technology refers to a special formula for the electrolyte that continuously repairs the Solid Electrolyte Interface that the company uses. It does so while the battery is charging and discharging. By doing so, it keeps the electrodes in good condition which improves the battery’s performance and extends its lifespan.
The first device to feature the new technology will be a OnePlus device which will debut in Q2 of this year.
