Huawei Reportedly Looking To Venture Into Chip Production Amidst American Sanctions

According to a report from Nikkei Asia, Huawei Technologies is said to have plans to start its own chip production line as early as this year.

This is the manufacturer’s solution to the heavy U.S. sanctions it received in the past few years having a “U.S. Free” production line and partnering up with other domestic companies will surely give them the boost they need.

Huawei Entering Chip Production

The Chinese manufacturer partnered with the semiconductor factory Fujian Jinhua Integrated Circuit Co. (JHICC) and China’s top chipmaker Ningbo Semiconductor Internation (NSI) alongside other smaller government-backed chip plants in Shenzhen according to reports.

Additionally, according to the reports, Huawei plans to covert some of JHICC’s memory chip production lines into ones that can produce processors and other logic chips.

NSI, on the other hand, specializes in radio frequency components and high voltage analog chips. They are a high-profile shareholder in the Chinese government’s funds.

These two companies are in addition to Huawei’s ownership of HiSilicon Technologies which is capable of designing some of the world’s most advanced processors for smartphones, base stations, surveillance cameras, and TVs.

However, Huawei did not share any confirmation regarding the reports mentioned here with JHICC and NSI following suit by not responding to inquiries.
