According to recent rumors, Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to feature its own Oryon cores rather than the current ARM cores it uses in its chipsets.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Oryon Cores
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, according to Twitter leakster Revegnus, is expected to be built on the TSMC 3nm N3E process. The TSMC node’s increased performance and energy-efficiency improvements are said to result in a 40% improvement in multi-core performance over the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
The Gen 4 is reported to have two Nuvia Phoenix (Oryon) performance cores and six Nuvia Phoenix (Oryon) M’ efficiency cores.
The Oryon cores are developed by Nuvia, which Qualcomm acquired in January 2021 for USD 1.5 billion.
The leakster also shared some alleged details on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Among these include being built the TSMC 4nm node with a high-performance Cortex-X4 core running at 3.70GHz. The unannounced chipset is also said to include four performance cores and three efficiency cores.
The Gen 3 is expected to be introduced later this year, with Gen 4 set for next year.
