CAAP Reports Bomb Threat Sent via AirDrop Delayed a Cebu Pacific Flight

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) report that last July 2, Cebu Pacific flight 5J472 from Bacolod headed to Manila was delayed after a passenger received a bomb threat via AirDrop.

The authority revealed that the bomb threat was sent to a passenger aboard the Cebu Pacific plane at around 11:39 PM via iOS AirDrop. Upon receiving the threat, the passenger alerted the flight attendant who then informed the pilot.

The Philippine National Police Aviation Security and Emergency Unit (PNP AVSEU) was immediately notified of the incident. The aircraft was deplaned and inspected by a bomb squad while passengers underwent x-ray security checks. The whole security procedure caused the flight to be delayed for two hours.” said CAAP in its statement.

After the whole security procedure, the flight was able to take off at 2:18 AM on July 3, 2023 with 193 passengers.

The CAAP has yet to identify the sender but it, along with Cebu Pacific, the Manila International Airport Authority, and PNVP AVSEU, are coordinating to investigate the incident.
