PhilHealth Implements Containment Measures After Cyber Attack, Assures No Data Leaked

PhilHealth President and CEO, Emmanuel Ledesma Jr. said in a statement, “The incident is under control and no personal information and medical information has been compromised or leaked,”

The ransomware attack was confirmed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). The Medusa ransomware encrypts the victim’s data and leaves a ransom note for ransom payment details in exchange for a decryption key.

In this case, it was reported that the Medusa group demanded USD 300,000 (around PHP 17 million) for the decryption key. However, Ledesma did not comment on the reports.

We are currently investigating the matter together with concerned government agencies which include the DICT to assess its extent,” Ledesma said in a statement last Saturday.

Rest assured that we will get to the bottom of this and will institute stronger systems to prevent this from happening again in the future,” he added.
