The company revealed that February and March will be the period for Developer Previews while the beta will drop from April onwards.

Despite the timeline though, Google doesn’t clearly state when the final release of Android 15 will actually arrive. It is expected though that a stable launch of Android will coincide with the launch of the Pixel 9 series which, based on last year’s timeline, would be around October 2024.

As with Android 14, we expect to see the newer version first power the Pixel 9 series and other manufacturers like Samsung, Xiaomi, and more for their smartphones at a later date.

What can we expect from Android 15?

Developer Previews give us a peek into the features of the latest version of Android and this is no different. Among the features we can expect include:

  • Partial Screen Sharing – share/record a specific app window instead of the entire screen
  • Virtual MIDI 2.0 Support – Music composition apps can interface with software synths running on the device
  • Updated Launcher Padding and Accessibility Improvements – a refined spacing for a cleaner look and a screen reader navigation and TalkBack features
  • Enhanced Camera Tools – developers now have fine-grained control over many camera elements like brightness, flash, and other camera features
  • Notification Cooldown – reduces the repetitive notifications from apps like messaging apps and more

As it is a very early peek into the latest Android version, there could be features that won’t make it to the stable build or even just be changed altogether. We expect to learn more about the next version of Android in the following months, especially as it gets into beta testing and beyond.
