OpenAI is set to launch a new AI, according to the report from The Information, codenamed “Strawberry”, as part of a chatbot pretty soon, potentially becoming part of ChatGPT, indicating a potential boost to the company’s next-generation large language model.
ChatGPT and GPT-4 Possible Upgrades
Strawberry, an AI developed by OpenAI’s former chief scientist, Ilya Sutskever, was improved on by researchers Jakub Pachocki and Szymon Sidor after Sutskever left the company. has advanced mathematical reasoning and programming skills, enabling it to solve complex problems and answer subjective questions on topics like marketing strategies.
This AI, which was formerly codenamed Q* (read as Q Star), raised safety concerns in 2023 and was the defining feature of OpenAI’s 2023 technical breakthrough.
OpenAI is developing a smaller, simplified version of the AI model, Strawberry, for use in chatbots. The goal is to maintain the same performance level as the larger model while being cheaper and easier to operate.
Furthermore, the new version is not expected to improve ChatGPT or GPT-4 performance this year. OpenAI uses synthetic data, generated from the larger Strawberry model, to reduce the need for internet-based text and images and reduce AI errors.
OpenAI is using Strawberry to train its GPT-4 successor, Orion, and improve its agents. The company is confident in the technology and has shown it to American national security officials. This demonstration is part of OpenAI’s initiative to be more transparent to policymakers who feel threatened by AI’s power, especially after multiple safety leaders left the company.
The exact launch date of Strawberry’s smaller variant has not been shared yet. We’ll have to wait for further announcements by OpenAI.
