MediaTek has officially introduced the MediaTek Dimensity 9400, its latest flagship chipset with a powerful CPU and on-device AI, to name a few of its features.
MediaTek Dimensity 9400
The Dimensity 9400 is built on the N3E 3nm process and has the second generation All-Big-Core design following the Dimensity 9300. It features a 1+3+4 core configuration comprised of:
- 1 x Cortex-X925 core at 3.63GHz
- 3 x Cortex-X4 cores at 3.3GHz
- 4 x Cortex-A720 cores at 2.4GHz
According to the company, compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9400 offers 35% better single-core performance and 28% improved multi-core performance. Moreover, the new process offers up to 40% better power efficiency.
The latest Dimensity 9000-series chipset is equipped with an Immortalis-G925 GPU running at 1,612MHz. It is said to have a 41% improvement in performance, 40% faster ray tracing, and 44% more power efficiency.
It also has an AI frame rate converter and HyperEngine Super Resolution for an enhanced gaming experience.
On the AI front, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 has an NPU 890 which is said to consume 35% less energy. The chip is said to be able to offer corrective fill in images, 100x zoom with remarkable detail, and better power efficiency in 4K @ 60 fps video capture.
MediaTek also claims that the chipset can handle up to 50 tokens per second as far as Large Language Models (LLMs) go. Moreover, it is the first non-Tensor mobile chip that can run the Gemini Nano on-device AI model.
The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 is equipped with an Imagiq 1090 ISP that can support up to 8-bit 8K 60fps or 10-bit 8K 30fps video recording on top of the better 4K@60 fps efficiency. It also supports full-range HDR zoom.
It supports displays at WQHD+ resolution and a 180Hz refresh rate. Additionally, it supports tri-fold displays, thanks to the 3x MIPI DSI interface. The chipset is also the first to implement 10.7 Gbps LPDDR5X RAM.
Other features include:
- supports 24-bit/384kHz Bluetooth audio
- allows 24-bit audio capture with up to 6 microphones
- new 5G modem that supports download speeds of up 7Gbps
- 15% improvement in connectivity speeds
- MediaTek Xtra Range 3.0 to boost Wi-Fi coverage by 30m
- 4nm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi combo chip is 50% more efficient
- Wi-Fi 7 support
The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 will first power the vivo X200 series, which is expected to debut in China on October 14, 2024. The OPPO Find X8 series is also expected to be powered by the new MediaTek flagship and it is expected to be launched later this month.
There were recent rumors as well that the Galaxy S24 and S24+ could be powered by the new MediaTek Dimensity 9000 series chipset.
