Almost a month ago, OPPO sent over the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro for us to test and experience. So, yes – it has been quite a while since I have the OPPO Find X8, and at last, I can now finally talk much about it.
There has been quite a buzz about OPPO’s latest flagship offerings. While most of OPPO’s customers around the globe would have the choice between the two, Filipino consumers is left with one choice in the series – the OPPO Find X8. So, some of you may ask – am I losing a lot for only having this choice? This review should (hopefully) answer that question.
OPPO Find X8 Review – Build and Design
The OPPO Find X8 strikes a balance between elegance and functionality. Its sleek 7.85mm profile and lightweight 193g body make it an ideal choice for those who prefer a compact form factor without compromising on power. The design philosophy is minimalist, featuring flat sides and contoured edges that ensure a comfortable grip.
If you’re considering the black color variant, which I’ve used for this review, expect a simple, professional look. However, if you’re after something with a bit more flair, the white version might catch your eye. The iconic Cosmos Ring design elegantly frames the camera, enhancing the phone’s aesthetic appeal. Moreover, its IP68 and IP69 certification (yes, you read that correctly) ensures durability, making it suitable for use in challenging environments.
OPPO Find X8 Review – Display
The Find X8’s display is a marvel, redefining what constitutes a “golden size” for compact smartphones. The 6.59-inch AMOLED screen, with its resolution of 2760 x 1256, delivers vivid colors and sharp details at an impressive 460 PPI. The 120Hz adaptive refresh rate makes for smooth scrolling and animations, while the peak brightness of 4500 nits ensures readability even under direct sunlight.
What stands out is the super-slim 1.45mm bezel, making the display truly immersive. OPPO has also addressed eye strain with a 3840Hz PWM dimming rate, which is eight times higher than its competitors, and features like DC dimming, dual ambient light sensors, and adaptive tone. This display not only looks good but also feels good on the eyes.
The display size contributes much to its overall compact build, which some consumers would prefer. This is the reason why the ASUS ZenFone 11 and Galaxy S24 have such good consumer base majorly because of its size and camera performance, and less on performance.
OPPO Find X8 Review – Hardware
Now, about performance – under the hood, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset powers the Find X8, showcasing its unexpected power in performance. With a CPU that’s 35% faster and a GPU that’s 41% faster than its predecessors, this phone holds its own against devices equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The efficiency improvements are notable as well, with a 40% increase in CPU efficiency and 44% in GPU efficiency.
However, it’s worth mentioning that OPPO has decided to launch only the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration in the Philippines, potentially leaving some performance enthusiasts wanting for more – myself included. Despite this, the hardware optimization and the use of LPDDR5X and UFS 4.0 ensure that the Find X8 delivers a smooth experience, with speeds that rival or even surpass many high-end devices.
OPPO Find X8 Review – Benchmark
The OPPO Find X8 has shown impressive benchmark results:
- Antutu: 1,863,413
- Geekbench 6 Single Core: 2,612
- Geekbench 6 Multi Core: 6,667
- PC Mark: 15,121
- 3D Mark Wild Life Extreme: 5,245
OPPO Find X8 Review – Software and Other Software Features
ColorOS 15, based on Android 15, offers a visually harmonious interface with a minimalist aesthetic. The partnership with Google introduces advanced AI features like Circle to Search, making interaction with the device intuitive. The AI enhancements extend to photo editing with tools like AI Photo Remaster, AI Studio for avatar creation, and an AI Toolbox for productivity.
The software experience is remarkably close to iOS 18, providing a seamless transition for those switching from iPhones. The camera app, in particular, mirrors iOS in functionality, although it lacks the unique Photography Style of the iPhone 16.
What struck me most is the availability of Share with iPhone, which works tremendously well with the O+ App for iPhone. It isn’t the most seamless, but it’s simply the best implementation I’ve used on an Android device without downloading any app via PlayStore.
Another important aspect that most consumers look at is the number of security updates that the Find X8 will receive. According to OPPO, the Find X8 series will receive 4 years of OS and 6 years of security updates. This is, by far, the longest software update path given by a brand on a particular SKU.
OPPO Find X8 Review – Camera
The camera system on the Find X8 is a standout feature. The collaboration with Hasselblad has matured, resulting in a camera array that includes a 50MP Sony LYT700 (Lytia) main wide camera, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP periscope telephoto. The Hasselblad Portrait Mode is exceptional, offering precision in subject segmentation and color science that competes directly with giants like Samsung and HONOR.
The film simulation modes add a nostalgic touch to photography, and the introduction of Livephoto to Android without compromising quality is a significant achievement. However, one minor annoyance is the noticeable lens switching at different magnifications, particularly evident in video and photo modes.
OPPO Find X8 Review – Audio and Battery
The Find X8 maintains high-quality sound through its speakers and offers good clarity for calls. The inclusion of Dolby Vision also hints at an audio experience optimized for multimedia consumption.
The Find X8 also packs a 5630mAh silicon-carbon battery, which, combined with the software and hardware optimizations, delivers remarkable battery life. In my personal test, it lasted 17 hours and 29 minutes with 15% battery remaining, showcasing its efficiency. The 80W SUPERVOOC charging capability means you can get back to full charge quickly, and the addition of 50W AIRVOOC wireless charging is a welcome feature for a non-pro model.
OPPO Find X8 Review – Verdict
Priced at PhP54,999, the OPPO Find X8 offers incredible value, positioning itself as one of the best-priced flagship smartphones in the Philippine market. Its design, display, camera capabilities, and battery life are all top-notch, making it a compelling choice for anyone looking for a high-end smartphone experience without the pro-price tag.
This device not only meets but often exceeds expectations, providing a compact yet powerful package. For those transitioning from iOS or looking for a feature-rich Android device, the Find X8’s software experience, particularly its camera interface, will feel familiar and intuitive. It’s a smart buy for those who value performance, photography, and battery life in a sleek, manageable form factor.
