Xiaomi Launches the Redmi K40 Series
Xiaomi has just unveiled the Redmi K40 series comprised of the K40, K40 Pro, and K40 Pro+.
The Redmi K40 series share a 6.67-inch Samsung-made E4 AMOLED panel with 1080×2400 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 360Hz touch sampling rate. The display also supports the DCI-P3 color space and HDR10+. In addition, it has a peak brightness of 1,300nits and is protected by Gorilla Glass 5.
The three Redmi flagships differ slightly in the rear-camera department but they do share the same 20MP front shooter.
They have a 4520mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging via USB-C using standard protocols – USB Power Delivery 3.0 and QuickCharge 3.0+. It is said to be charged to 100% in just 52 minutes.
As far as connectivity goes, the Redmi K40 series support sub-6 GHz 5G, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5 with Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification. They also have NFC and an IR blaster. In the audio department, they have stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res certifications but don’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack.
All three devices have an IP53 rating meaning they have dust resistance in addition to resisting some water. Despite the devices using AMOLED panels, Xioami opted for side-mounted fingerprint scanners.
Redmi K40 Pro+
The Redmi K40 Pro+ features the 108MP Samsung ISOCELL sensor as its main camera. This is joined by an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera with 119-degree FoV and a 5MP telephoto macro lens.
The Pro+ can record 8K video at 30 fps and 4K video at 30 and 60 fps. Slow-motion video, on the other hand, can be shot at up to 960 fps at 1080p resolution. The front camera shoots 1080p videos at 30 fps and for slow-mo clips at 120 fps at 720p.
Under the hood, it has a 5nm-process Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 coupled with 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 internal storage.
The Redmi K40 Pro+ will be available starting March 4 but pre-order has already started. It retails for CNY 3,699 for the lone 12GB/256GB configuration.
Redmi K40 Pro
The Redmi K40 Pro, on the other hand, shares the same rear cameras but replaces the 108MP main camera for a 64MP main camera with a 1/1.7-inch optical format. Despite this though, it can still record 8K video at 30fps like the Pro+.
It also shares the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset but comes with 6/8GB RAM and 128/256GB internal storage.
Both the K40 Pro and Pro+ support Wi-Fi 6E and bump up the Bluetooth version to 5.2.
The K40 Pro pre-order has begun but will be available start March 4. The pricing is as follows:
- 6GB + 128GB – CNY 2,799
- 8GB + 128GB – CNY 2,999
- 8GB + 256GB – CNY 3,299
Redmi K40
Last but definitely not the least, is the Redmi K40 which has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 at the helm with 6/8/12GB RAM and 128/256GB of internal storage.
It has a 48MP Sony IMX582 sensor as its main camera joined by an 8MP ultra-wide angle lens and a 5MP telephoto macro lens. Video recording is capped at 4K/30fps but its slow-mo mode keeps at pace with the Pro and Pro+. As far as connectivity goes, the vanilla K40 supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.
The Redmi K40 is available for pre-order starting at CNY 1,999 for the base 6GB + 128GB variant. The price of the other memory configurations are as follows:
