New iPad Pro with M1 Chipset, 5G, and Liquid Retina XDR Display Introduced
Apple has just held its Spring Loaded event where it unveiled the new additions to the M1 family namely the iMac and iPad Pro. The latter features 5G and a Liquid Retina XDR display in the 12.9-inch variant.
New and improved iPad Pro
The new iPad Pro comes in two sizes – an 11-inch option and a 12.9-inch variant. The 12.9-inch model, as we mentioned, introduces the Liquid Retina XDR display that uses 10,000 LEDs across the entire back of the display. It offers 1000 nits of brightness and a 1 million-to-1 contrast ratio. The result of this is a stunning visual experience. Both sizes support ProMotion, True Tone, P3 wide color, HDR, and Dolby Vision.
At the helm is the M1 chipset with an 8-core CPU and an 8-core GPU. The former delivers 50% faster CPU performance than the A12Z Bionic, while the latter offers 40% faster GPU performance. The new chipset is paired with up to 16GB RAM and up to 2TB storage.
The camera system in the back is supported by the ISP and Neural Engine in M1 and brings Smart HDR 3. The LiDar Scanner and ISP also help in low-light shooting.
On the front, it has a 12MP ultra-wide camera with a new video call feature called Center Stage that automatically pans the camera as you move around to keep you in the shot. When another person joins you, the camera detects them too and smoothly zooms out to fit everyone.
The charging port has also been improved to support Thunderbolt and USB 4 that brings up to 4x bandwidth for wired connections. This allows you to use higher resolution external displays, including the Pro Display XDR at full 6K resolution.
The iPad Pro is compatible with the different accessories like the second-generation Apple Pencil, Magic Keyboard, Smart Keyboard Folio, and Smart Folio.
iPad pricing and availability
Both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro are available in silver and space gray. They are available with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage options.
