Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III Launched with 120Hz Displays
Sony has just announced the Sony Xperia 1 III and Sony Xperia 5 III alongside the Sony Xperia 10 III today. The Xperia 1 III is the successor to the Xperia 1 II, while the Xperia 5 III succeeds the Xperia 5 II.
The Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III have variable telephotos cameras that switch between 70mm and 105mm. It is a 12MP 1/2.9″ Sony sensor with either f/2.3 or f/2.8 aperture depending on the focal length. Digital zoom has also been improved to reach 300mm via AI super-resolution zoom.
Their main camera is a 12MP 1/1.7″ sensor with OIS and f/1.7 aperture. This is joined by a 12MP 1/2.6″ ultrawide snapper with f/2.2 aperture and autofocus.
The cameras have ZEISS lenses with T coating and include real-time Eye AF, Optical SteadyShot, and 4K recording at 120fps.
Up front, the Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III share an 8MP camera. The former has a 3D ToF camera joining the front shooter.
Sony Xperia 1 III
The Sony Xperia 1 III is the bigger of the two with a 6.5-inch 4K OLED panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio, HDR support, and a 120Hz refresh rate. It is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus in front and by frosted Gorilla Glass 6 at the back.
Under the hood, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset coupled with 12GB RAM and 256/512GB of internal storage expandable via a microSD card.
The new flagship features a 4500mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging and wireless charging.
Sony Xperia 5 III
The Sony Xperia 5 III, on the other hand, has a 6.1-inch FullHD+ OLED display but shares HDR Support, the 21:9 aspect ratio, and the 120Hz refresh rate. It is protected by Gorilla Glass 6 in both front and back.
The Xperia 5 III also has a Snapdragon 888 at the helm but has 8GB RAM and 128/256GB internal storage accompanying it instead. The storage is still expandable via a microSD card though.
It shares the same 4500mAh battery with 30W fast charging support minus the wireless charging.
Pricing and Availability
The Sony Xperia 1 III comes in Frosted Black, Frosted Gray, and Frosted Purple colorways, while the Sony Xperia 5 III is available in Black, Green, and Pink.
Both devices will be available in the start of summer with pricing to be announced at a later date.
