Leica Leitz Phone 1 Unveiled with a 1-inch Camera

Leica has just launched its own smartphone called the Leitz Phone 1 in Japan via Softbank.

The Leitz Phone 1 is basically a rebranded Sharp Aquos R6. The Leica did redesign the device though with a circular camera module with a magnetic circular lens cap. This houses the same 1-inch 20MP sensor as the Aquos R6.

The rear of the first Leica device features a matte black glass cover while the rest of the body is metal.

On the front, it has a 6.6-inch IGZO OLED display with a 240Hz refresh rate. It features a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the display and can read up to two fingerprints simultaneously. Additionally, it has a 12.6MP sensor upfront.

Under the hood, it is powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset with 12GB RAM and 256GB expandable storage up to 1TB via microSD card.

It boasts a 5000mAh battery and has an IP68 rating, making it dust and water resistant. The device runs on Android 11 with custom Leica UI that’s mostly monochrome.

The Leitz Phone 1 is a Softbank exclusive in Japan, for now. It is priced at JPY 187,920. Pre-orders start tomorrow but the phone will be available in late July. Leica has yet to announce whether its first smartphone will be available internationally though.
