Samsung has just unveiled the newest iterations of its foldable smartphones – one of which is the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G with an improved design, more capable hardware, and S-Pen support.

Like the Z Flip3 5G, Galaxy Z Fold3 5G also boasts IPX8 water resistance, and is made of Armor Aluminum which offers 10% more strength. It is also protected by Gorilla Glass Victus and uses a new protective film and a redesigned layer structure for improved durability.

It has a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover screen, as well as a 7.6-inch Dynamic FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display. Both support a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s also the first galaxy smartphone to pack an under display camera which then allows the user to enjoy content without any distractions. Under the hood, it packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC along with 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

For optics, Galaxy Z Fold3 5G uses a trio of 12MP sensors at the rear – one wide, one ultrawide, and one telephoto. The cover camera is a 10MP unit, while the under display camera uses a 4MP sensor. The rear cameras are protected with Super Clear Glass with Gorilla Glass with DX. Camera-related features l- Dual Preview and Capture View have also been improved.

For the first time, S-Pen support comes to a foldable. Users can go for the S-Pen Pro which features Bluetooth and a dedicated device switching button. It can be used not just for the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G but also for other galaxy devices like the Galaxy Tab and the Galaxy Book. It also allows for Air Actions via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). S-Pen Fold Edition, on the other hand, is a lighter S-Pen without Bluetooth.

Apart from improvements in the design and hardware, Samsung has made some improvements to the user experience.

Screen Optimized Features

  • Menu sizes have been optimized so users can see more information
  • Users will be able to customize the size of the calendar app to gain more screen space
  • Pinned taskbar makes it easier to switch between apps

More Intuitive Interaction

  • When the screen is split in two, users can open another webpage on the right side to chat with friends
  • When shopping online, users can also drag hyperlinks to the right side of the screen to view more information

App Optimization at Device Level

In addition, users can enable the Labs feature to tailor the size of the app window and use it simultaneously with other apps, and enable Multi Window for all apps to make their favorite apps smaller and simultaneously use them with other apps.

Galaxy Z Fold3 5G houses a 4,400mAh battery and features Dolby Atmos as well as improved stereo speakers for enhanced entertainment.
