According to the leakster Ice Universe, Samsung is working on a new chipset built on the 5nm process targeted for entry-level devices.
The new chipset is believed to be dubbed the Exynos 1280. If this is true, it will be quite confusing since the 5nm process Exynos 1080 is a chip targeted for mid-range devices.
Despite the questionable naming convention though, if it is launched the new SoC will be the first entry-level 5nm chipset. There are other 5nm chipsets like the Exynos 1080 and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G but no entry-level chipset is offered built on a 5nm process.
Ice Universe mentioned that Samsung will unveil the Exynos 1280 on November 10. Because it is expected to be the first entry-level chipset built on the 5nm process, seeing which smartphone brand will use the chipset will be interesting.
