Qualcomm Launches Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and 7c+ Gen 3 Chipsets

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 launch

Qualcomm has just launched two new chipsets for Windows-on-ARM laptops, namely the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and 7c+ Gen 3. This comes following the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3

The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is the more powerful chipset of the two. It is the first chipset for Windows devices to be built on the 5nm process.

It is said to offer an 85% increase in multi-core performance and a 60% boost in GPU performance compared to its predecessor. Its NPU has also been bumped up to offer 29 TOPS.

The chipset is also equipped with an X65 modem that offers 5G connectivity with up to 10Gbps. It also supports Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E.

The company boasts AI-accelerated echo cancellation and noise suppression. Additionally, it supports multiple cameras that include features like sharing a front and back camera at the same time. This should come in handy with the current work/study from home setup.

Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 launch

The Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3, on the other hand, is built for affordable Windows laptops. It is built on a 6nm process compared to the 8nm chip. The Gen 3 has 60% improved CPU and 70% faster GPU performance.

Its NPU features 6.5 TOPS of computing power, which is a small improvement from the 5 TOPS of Gen 2.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c+ Gen 3 features

What isn’t a small improvement though is in connectivity as the Gen 3 now supports 5G thanks to its X53 modem. The 5G connectivity delivers speeds of up to 3.7 Gbps. The chipset also supports Wi-Fi 6E with speeds of up to 2.9 Gbps.

According to the company, the first Windows 11 laptops powered by both new chipsets will come out in the first half of 2022.
