Apple has just rolled out iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4, the fourth major update for the operating systems for the iPhone and iPad, respectively.
iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4
Both operating systems get 21 new emojis including new animals, hand gestures, and objects. Additionally, web apps now display notification icons on the home screen, just like native apps can.
iOS 16.4 introduces voice isolation to help make your phone calls clearer by blocking out ambient noise. It also finds duplicate photos and videos in a shared iCloud Photo Library.
Here are other features you can find in the iOS update:
- VoiceOver support for maps in the Weather app
- Accessibility setting to automatically dim video when flashes of light or strobe effects are detected
- The keyboard support for indigenous languages like Chickasaw and Choctaw as well as support transliteration for Gujarati, Punjabi, and Urdu keyboards.
- Fixes an issue where Ask to Buy requests from children may fail to appear on the parent’s device
- Accessibility setting to automatically dim video when flashes of light or strobe effects are detected
- Addresses issues where Matter-compatible thermostats could become unresponsive when paired to Apple Home
- Crash Detection optimizations on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models
- Security fixes for Safari 16.4
iPad OS 16.4, on the other hand, has improvements for the Apple Pencil 2 for M2-powered iPad Pro and iPad Air. The hover function of the Pencil 2 will now also recognize the angle it is held in addition to the position of the stylus. This is so apps like Procreate can offer a more accurate brush preview.
The company has also introduced security updates for both OS.
