HUAWEI and GCash Introduce QR Code Transactions on Wearable Devices in PH

HUAWEI Philippines has introduced a groundbreaking innovation in cashless payments by integrating the QR Code Payment feature via GCash into its latest lineup of wearable devices. Named Watch Pay, this new feature enables HUAWEI smartwatches to function as fast and secure payment tools, so users can conduct transactions seamlessly using QR codes without the need for their mobile devices or wallets.

GCash Watch Pay is the first of its kind in the Philippines to enable QR code payments on wearable devices. It is currently available on several models, including the HUAWEI WATCH Ultimate, HUAWEI WATCH GT 4, HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Series, HUAWEI WATCH D2, HUAWEI WATCH Fit 3, and the HUAWEI Band 10. This feature will also be available to future wearable devices launched by HUAWEI.

How to Access GCash with Watch Pay

To access GCash through HUAWEI smartwatches, users can follow these steps:

  1. Log your HUAWEI ID on their Android or HUAWEI phones. The HUAWEI ID region must be under the Philippines.
  2. Connect HUAWEI Health to your HUAWEI smartwatch.
  3. Log in to your GCash mobile app. Make sure your account is fully verified.
  4. On your HUAWEI smartwatch menu, go to ‘Settings’ and select the ‘Payment’ option.
  5. Find the ‘GCash’ option to install the app on your smartwatch. Open the app once installed.
  6. Enter your GCash pin. Scan the QR code displayed via the GCash mobile app.
  7. Select “Bind” on the GCash mobile app.
  8. Both the GCash mobile app and the watch screen should show that the linking is successful.

With the Watch Pay feature, users can enjoy fast and hassle-free transactions at various stores that accept QR code payments, such as 7-Eleven, Lawson, Marketplace, Starbucks, and more. This innovation aligns with GCash’s mission to drive digital finance innovation and empower Filipinos through convenient and secure payment solutions.

This collaboration comes on the heels of HUAWEI’s continued leadership in global wearable shipments, as reported by IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Wearable Device Tracker. Despite a slight decline in global wrist-worn device shipments, HUAWEI saw significant growth, maintaining its position as a market leader.

HUAWEI’s wearables are available on Shopee, Lazada, TikTok, the HUAWEI Online Store, as well as HUAWEI Experience Stores nationwide. For more information, visit Huawei’s pages on Facebook and Instagram.
